Africa YFFor those of us intrepid travelers who have ventured into the many Yellow Fever zones in Africa and South America, there is good news from the World Health Organization.  I don’t know why I didn’t see this news earlier, but here it is – and it will save us all at least an ouch or two.

According to the World Health Organization’s updated March 2014 protocols related to Yellow Fever, “a single dose of yellow fever vaccine is sufficient to confer sustained immunity and life-long protection against yellow fever disease and a booster dose of yellow fever vaccine is not needed.”  This is counter to the prior convention of having a booster shot every ten years.

So, buy those flights, grab your yellow WHO card and begin traveling without worrying about getting a booster!
